La Nacion report in an article May 25th, that private investors, including Walmart, and the costa rica government would be spending $178 million dollars in renovations and real estate improvements in Puntarenas. Walmart is scheduled to build two Walmart stores in the surrounding area of Puntarenas and it appears they have broken ground on one of their stores in Roble, a suburb of Puntarenas. With many U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries now living in this area, Walmart offers a familiar venue for those that live part or full time in Costa Rica. Walmart has entered the Costa Rica market prior to this with its purchase of 131 food stores nationwide. Other developments in Puntarenas include the purchase of Hotel Fiesta by the Hilton USA which is now a Doubletree Hilton Hotel. This Hotel is one of the most successful hotels in Costa Rica and this purchase will only make this Hotel more successful!! There is over an 8 month wait to book your stay at this Hotel and the average price per person to stay is at $90 a night!! Other investors have broken ground and started condo projects along the bay of Puntarenas. Although one can see areas of the old Puntarenas, the development is very quickly changing these areas into very new and glamorous buildings. The beaches have been updated and include statues, basketball courts, courtyards etc. The shops on the beach are undergoing new construction. The carival cruises stops in the port in the city of Puntarenas at least twice a week and the new renovations should give visitors a very favorable opinion of this city called "the pearl of the Pacific". The ferrys leaving Puntarenas have been upgraded and are beautiful!! There is karioke and a dance floor on some of the ferrys make the short trip across the bay a very fun time!! On the other side of the bay in Playa Naranjo, the road south to Paquera is scheduled to be paved in the coming months, and a retail center is about to break ground just down the street from the ferry. This area is very secluded and beautiful with $650,000 to $750,000 homes selling at a very fast pace. The Color of the Money s.a. is offering lots at a fraction of the price for a limited time only. This is one of the hottest real estate areas in Costa Rica and when the main road is paved south to Tambor and Paquera, it will cut the travel time to about 30 minutes to these areas and offer those looking for beautiful land a drastic price cut when comparing the prices of land in Tambor. This opportunity is rapidly closing so act fast!!! If you an even a small notion of "getting into the game" with Costa Rica opportunities please ask for more information. Don't buy cheap land that will take years to appreciate in value, buy valuable land at inexpensive prices!!!
